NGOs first register as a legal entity (Liberia Business Registration and notarised Articles of Incorporation) and then apply to MFDP for accreditation through the NGO Coordination Unit. Line ministries, agencies and commissions give sector clearance for NGOs working in their sector; for example the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection requires a business registration certificate, articles, workplan, financial strategy and bank statement, and for re-applications the annual report and MFDP accreditation certificate. MFDP launched an online registration and accreditation platform in August 2022, but in March 2024 it suspended online applications for technical reasons and directed NGOs to use the manual process at the NGO Coordination Unit. Accreditation must be renewed, and renewal involves submitting activity and financial reports. Current requirements, renewal periods and fees could not be confirmed on the official website, which is being rebuilt.
